The Industry 5.0 Community of Practice (CoP 5.0), the European Commission initiative, was officially launched on 16 November 2023, marked by the first joint session of its working groups. CoP 5.0 unites a broad range of European innovation ecosystem stakeholders, providing a platform to share best practices, co-create actions to implement Industry 5.0, and network for new collaborations. 

The seminar “Artificial Intelligence and its Business Applications for Belt and Road Countries”, held from November 1 to 14 in Beijing and Shenzhen, gathered many officials from around the world in the field of AI.

Our senior researchers from the Faculty of Technical Sciences and the Institute for Artificial Intelligence R&D in Serbia, Prof. Dr. Aleksandar Rikalovic and Dr. Bojana Bajic had the honor of participating in the prestigious national TV show “Science In Motion,” where they delved into the intriguing topic of “Challenges Of Artificial Intelligence.“

Management of new security risks-research and simulation development (NEWSIMR&D) is a Science fund of the Republic of Serbia-supported project. Through cutting-edge research and practical go-to-market applications, the project aims to address important social and industrial risks by bringing together public academic institutions and private enterprises.

Sustainability and productivity needn’t be at odds when enabled by Industry 4.0 technology categories. And with an empowered workforce leading the way, outsize gains can be the result. 

Industry 4.0 technology categories have helped boost operations’ productivity and efficiency. This increased operational performance to support the growth without the need to add more resources or machines that consume more energy. Ninety percent of greenhouse-gas emissions come from electricity. So more than 1,000 Industrial IoT sensors is deployed to more than 500 pieces of equipment and 15 utility systems to gather data and generate analytics insights. This allows us to optimize energy consumption across the entire factory. This is how Industry 4.0 technology categories accelerate digital sustainability. Thus, Digitalization is the key that can unlock net-zero for industry.

Known as the Internet of Things (IoT), there are now over 30 billion items with the ability to connect digitally, and the predictive manufacturing industry continues to grow, thanks to the skills of trained professionals. The development of IoT jobs and their crucial role in keeping up with demand has meant that there is no shortage of job opportunities on the horizon. In 2019, nearly two-thirds (61%) of companies globally implemented IoT applications, and that number continues to grow as the world evolves.

With this in mind, Distrelec has analyzed the companies recruiting for IoT jobs, the total number of active listings globally, and the most desirable jobs in 2022.

Edge computing is one of the hottest topics in the industry for the moment. According to Gartner by 2025 a whopping 75% of data will be processed at the edge devices. As the name indicates Edge Computing brings computing power closer to the edge of the network. This enables to store and analyze data closer to where it is generated which reduces pressure on communication networks (lowering network latency) and the heart of the network (data centers and, increasingly, the cloud).

Industry 5.0 represents the concept of transition to a human–centric, sustainable, and resilient manufacturing system driven by advanced technologies. However, the greatest potential for innovation in the industry is reflected in the application of advanced digital technologies. The era of advanced digital technologies has been started by the fourth-industrial revolution, better known as Industry 4.0. Many industries expect Industry 4.0 to have a significant impact on their supply chains, manufacturing processes, and business models. Thus, Industry 4.0 is a technological concept offering a promise of enhancement in efficiency through digital connectivity and AI, but reporting a lot of implementation challenges.
