Serbian Scientists Together with Japanese Experts are Developing Smart Manufacturing

Industry giant Mitsubishi Electric embarks on joint initiatives with the Faculty of Technical SciencesInstitute for Artificial Intelligence R&D, and Tarkett to foster Smart Manufacturing.

The collaboration between Mitsubishi Electric, the Faculty of Technical Sciences, the Institute for Artificial Intelligence R&D, and Tarkett is poised to foster a vibrant ecosystem for the research, development, and commercialization of groundbreaking technologies. This partnership strengthens international ties and positions Serbia as a hub for cutting-edge advancements in artificial intelligence and smart manufacturing solutions.

One of the significant outcomes is the initiation of pilot projects in collaboration with Tarkett. These projects will explore integrating Mitsubishi Electric’s cutting-edge technologies into Tarkett’s innovative flooring and sports surface solutions with support from the Faculty of Technical Sciences and the Institute for Artificial Intelligence R&D. The aim is to enhance functionality, energy efficiency, waste reduction and process optimization.

Mr. Aleksandar Veljkovic, business unit director at Tarkett, expressed his excitement about the partnership, emphasizing the potential impact on their product portfolio. “By combining our expertise in flooring solutions with Mitsubishi Electric’s advanced technologies, we can revolutionize the way employees interact with their surroundings. This collaboration aligns perfectly with our vision and represents a step forward in creating a sustainable, resilient, smart, and healthier working environment.”

During the visit, high-level representatives from Mitsubishi Electric in Nagoya Works, Japan – Eguchi Takanori and Maki Takano, and Mitsubishi Electric Europe B.V., German Branch – Christian Nomine and Aleksandar Stankovic, came together for a collaborative visit to the Faculty of Technical Sciences and the Institute for Artificial Intelligence R&D in Serbia. Mitubishi Elecic engaged in productive discussions with faculty professors Aleksandar Rikalovic and professor Slobodan Moraca from the Faculty of Technical Sciences and researcher Bojana Bajic and Milovan Medojevic from the Institute for Artificial Intelligence R&D. The focus of these conversations revolved around sharing best practices, exploring emerging trends in technology, and identifying areas for potential collaboration.

Professor Dubravko Culibrk, director of the Institute for Artificial Intelligence R&D, expressed his enthusiasm about the visit, stating, “We are delighted to welcome Mitsubishi Electric to our institution and have the opportunity to collaborate with such a prestigious global company.
